Unveiling Cultural Gems
Day 1: Negombo to Sigiriya
- Start your Sri Lankan adventure in Negombo, a charming coastal town known for its beautiful beaches, fresh seafood, and relaxed atmosphere. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at your hotel before hitting the road.
- In the afternoon, arrive in Sigiriya, the famous “Lion Rock” fortress. Climb the 1,200 steps to the top of the rock and be rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Explore the ancient ruins of the palace complex, including the Lion Gate, water gardens, and frescoes.
Day 2: Sigiriya to Kandy
- After breakfast, depart from Sigiriya and head towards Kandy, the last capital of the ancient Sinhalese kings. The drive takes approximately 3 hours (78 km).
- En route, visit the Matale Spice Garden and learn about the various spices and herbs grown in Sri Lanka. You can also take a tour of a batik factory and witness the traditional process of creating these beautiful fabrics.
- You can also stop at a handicraft workshop to see how local artisans create beautiful souvenirs.
- In the afternoon, arrive in Kandy, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic, one of the most sacred Buddhist shrines in Sri Lanka. In the evening, enjoy a cultural performance featuring traditional Sri Lankan dances and music.
Day 3: Kandy to Negombo
- On the way to negombo can Stop at the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage, a haven for rescued and orphaned elephants (responsible tourism practices encouraged). Witness feeding times or observe these gentle giants roaming freely (optional).
- If you have enough time for the flight you can enjoy a boat ride in the negombo lagoon mangroves.
